I sang in high school, in college and after I graduated from law school. I sang in more traditional type choirs and I am really enjoying singing with the Sweet Adelines. The Sweet Adelines are a very warm and welcoming group of ladies and it is so much fun to put aside my work to focus on something as much fun as singing with these wonderful ladies. I am married for twenty-two years to a wonderful man and have two great kids. I have been working for the state as an administrative law judge since 1986 and before that I was a law guardian and an assistant county attorney. My daughter Claire is a junior at college and intends on getting her PhD in marine biology. My son Akiva just started his first year at New Paltz and is studying geology. He and I love rocks! Claire is also studying French, which delights me as I get to share my family’s heritage with her. We are family of swimmers and outdoor enthusiasts, as is our loyal dog Huck.

Other than taking piano lessons when I was ten years old, I don't have any formal background in music. I have always liked to sing, however, whether it is teaching songs to students in my classes or singing along to the radio. A few years ago a friend encouraged me to try singing with a small group of friends, and it took all my courage to show up at a rehearsal and try singing one part while other people were singing different parts. I found that I really liked being part of a group of voices. I met Flora Beth, and she suggested that I attend a Sweet Adelines rehearsal. I was immediately struck by the friendliness and upbeat atmosphere of the Sweet Adelines, and I was happily surprised by the selection of music. When I heard "barbershop,” I thought of the songs of the early 20th century, but while some of the songs that the group sings are old favorites, they are also including more contemporary songs from recent musicals and pop music. It is a real range of musical styles, and I like that.
I teach French and Italian at Laurens Central School and at SUNY Oneonta. I live in Laurens with my husband and our three dogs, cat, four chickens and four sheep. I am very involved with wool crafts, working frequently with the wool from my own sheep. I spin yarn, knit and crochet—I am usually working on a few projects at one time, and dreaming of the next one. If I could find the time, I would do a lot more handcrafts, sewing and quilting, and probably have a few more animals! I have a degree in Fashion Design, and before teaching languages in upstate New York, I worked in the fashion industry in New York City for 20 years. I was blessed to meet my husband there, and every day of our life together has been an adventure. I love to travel, and every year or so I accompany groups of students and community members to France or Italy.
I am honored to have been accepted as a member of the Sweet Adelines, and I look forward to Monday nights!
